Oops, Don’t Get Tricked! The Secret Code (OTP) Belongs Only to You!

Terakhir diperbarui, Mei 30, 2026

One way to protect yourself from digital crime is to avoid sharing your One-Time Password (OTP) with others. Those with malicious intent can take over someone's account if they have the OTP.

If a fraudster manages to obtain the OTP, the security of your applications will be compromised. An OTP is a verification code or one-time password, typically consisting of six characters, often unique numbers. OTPs are typically sent via SMS or email and are generally only valid for a very short period, such as two minutes.

"Perpetrators can use this information to commit various crimes, such as credit card fraud for bank transfers, theft of funds from victim accounts, and fraud via email accounts or apps like WhatsApp." Furthermore, fraudsters can also use chat apps whose accounts they have taken over to commit fraud and even extortion.

Given the significant impact and danger if an OTP code falls into the wrong hands, never share your OTP with anyone. It should only be used by the person conducting the transaction. OTPs are confidential and serve as a security measure in today's digital world.
